National Security Technologies (NSTec), prime contractor to the U.S. Department of Energy?s National Nuclear Security Administration, has an immediate opening for a Laser Electro-Optic Technician to work with a team to provide technical support to execute project objectives related to the design, modification, testing, troubleshooting, and procedural development associated with calibration of advanced diagnostic systems used on High Energy Density Physics (HEDP) and Inertial Confinement Fusion (ICF) experiments for the national laboratories. Work location is at Livermore, CA. U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a security clearance are required.

Successful candidate will provide support to a group of scientists & engineers involved in the development of advanced diagnostic systems. Setup & operate prototype diagnostic systems on high-power laser systems, x-ray, and other sources for performance evaluation. Design & develop electronic circuits, which will be an integral part of diagnostics systems. Re-design, modify & troubleshoot existing electronic systems to meet customer experimental requirements as needed. Write work procedures & write/maintain comprehensive documentation of all laboratory operations, safety systems, diagnostic test data, modifications, configuration control information & chronological histories of work in process. Provide documentation by maintaining a log of the test data, fabrication changes & errors. Recommend changes for ease of assembly, draw schematic diagrams,& assist in development of procedures, technical manuals & reports.

Successful candidate shall possess an Associate degree in Electronics Engineering Technology or equivalent and a minimum of six years progressive electro-optics experience.? Candidate with equivalent military experience and training will be considered.? Bachelors degree preferred.? High level skills, knowledge & ability in electronics technology including circuit design, component-level troubleshooting & system level understanding of electronics, of electronic/computer controls & circuits is required. Experience working in a team environment, which includes scientists, engineers, technicians, & designers. Ability to work under minimal supervision in a dynamic multi-disciplinary project environment with simultaneous commitments to performance, cost, & schedule. Experience with lasers, optics, fiber optics, laser diagnostics & other laser electro-optics technology (LEOT) techniques, and the set up & execution of experiments on high power lasers, x-ray, or neutron sources preferred. Experience with CCD imaging devices, streak cameras, micro channel plates, LabVIEW, GPIB & computer controls are a strong plus.
