We are seeking several System Administrators to join our UNIX/Linus team, this posting is for a Lead Linux Systems Administrator (Systems Administrator 5) position. The UNIX/Linus team is a group of talented system administrators in the Information Services and Technology (IST) division. The IST Enterprise UNIX Team provides UNIX/Linux server hosting for central campus infrastructure and UNIX/Linux systems administration for critical campus applications, such as Oracle Database Services, bSpace (SAKAI), Student Information Systems, Graduate Admissions, and Financial Aid as well as several departmental applications.
Experience with Red Hat Linux Enterprise, VMware, and other virtualization technologies as well as knowledge of applicable programming languages (e.g. Perl, Python, etc.) is required.
Also valued is knowledge of one or more of the following technologies: Apache/Tomcat, JBOSS, systems monitoring and performance/load testing, external hosting/cloud computing. Responsibilities . Leads a team of systems/infrastructure professionals. . Performs the most complex and advanced analysis techniques to analyze, acquire, install, modify and support operating systems, databases, utilities and Internet/intranet-related tools. . Directs, analyzes, designs and implements the most complex network communications server configurations and solutions. . Independently conducts the most complex systems programming and systems support activities. . Defines and administers security policies to control access to systems. . Directs, initiates, proposes and implements system enhancements (software and hardware updates) that will improve the performance and reliability of the system. . Independently manages centralized computer servers and makes recommendations for purchase or upgrade of new computer hardware. . Independently conducts the most complex programming tasks. . Operates campus' internal data communications systems, including LANs and WANs. . Performs the most complex and advanced analysis techniques to plan, design and implement networked systems. . Executes the most complex security control to prevent hackers from infiltrating campus information. . Maintains the most complex security systems for routers and switches. Required Qualifications . Bachelors degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training . Must be able to communicate technical information in a clear and concise manner across the organization; requiring frequent interface with senior members of the administration on matters of significance. . Can identify complex problems and related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions. . Has knowledge, skills and abilities needed to determine how the systems and technology function should operate most efficiently and how changes to technology systems will affect outcomes, operations, and business objectives. . Possess both the technical and presentation skills necessary to represent the University at national forums. . Possess expert level knowledge of TCP/IP protocols and technologies.
Possess expert level knowledge of computer storage technologies and best practices.
Has a strong programming background with knowledge of software development best practices. Preferred Qualifications . Linux certification a plus. . Work experience in higher education. Salary & Benefits Salary will be commensurate with experience, annual salary range is $80,100 - $144,300.
